WHAT IS A BOND? — UNDERSTAND BOND PRICING
A bond is essentially a loan from an investor to a government, company or other issuer. The investor provides capital and, depending on the bond, receives periodic coupon payments before the principal is repaid at maturity.
- Face Value — the amount repaid at maturity.
- Coupon Rate — the stated interest rate applied to the bond's face value.
- Maturity — when the principal is due.
- Yield — the return implied by the bond's price and cash flows.
- Price — what the bond costs in the market.
- Coupon Frequency — how often interest is paid (Kenyan bonds: usually semi-annual).
- Clean Price — bond price excluding accrued interest.
- Dirty Price — clean price + accrued interest (what you actually pay between coupon dates).
Pricing principle: bond price = present value of future coupon payments + present value of the principal repayment. For a fixed-rate bond: C = coupon per period, N = number of periods, r = yield per period, F = face value.
Day-count conventions: instruments use different conventions (30/360, Actual/365, Actual/Actual). Kenyan T-bills use Actual/365 for discount pricing in our calculator; bond coupons are typically Actual/Actual at issuance.

Days later the app checks whether the market actually moved the way the call implied. Wins and losses are shown together, unedited. A track record that only shows wins is an ad.

- When it's graded: after the 72-hour horizon the app compares entry price to the current price. Directional calls (BUY→up, SELL→down) need a ±0.5% move; "flat" calls must stay inside ±2%.
- REPLAY entries are honest backtests: the strategy's momentum rule replayed on real stored daily bars at 3 / 7 / 14 / 30-day holds. Labeled REPLAY in the ledger, never mixed silently with live calls.
- Calibration bands group calls by the AI's own confidence, so you can see whether high-confidence calls actually deliver more than low-confidence ones.
- Nothing is hidden: misses, worst calls and losing streaks render exactly like wins. If the numbers are ugly, that's the point.
